Abstract Painting and the Creative Process
There is no road map for intuitive painting, so how do you navigate the uncharted territory of making an abstract painting?
One of the most helpful tools I have found is to apply Richard Diebenkorn’s Notes to Myself on Beginning A Painting to my painting process, referencing his 10 signposts along the way.
These Notes were found among the artist’s papers after his death in 1993, and they offer a remarkable insight into his artistic process and the rigour with which he approached his search for abstraction.
They’ve been very influential in guiding my own painting practice and in the video below, I talk about how I apply them to my own painting practice.
Abstract painting and the Creative Process has been watched over 45,000 times on YouTube. You can subscribe to my channel here: @trudietaramoultonart
Read my blog post with all of Diebenkorn’s Notes To Myself on Making A Painting. They’re also humourous, ironic, and I venture, can be applied to many different types of creative endeavour, not just painting.
Have you been able to apply them to other areas? Let me know in the comments below.
